In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, former Premier League striker Dean Windass has described Gareth Bale as the key to Tottenham’s season.
The Wales captain has looked back to his best in recent matches, which came after Bale had initially endured a difficult spell upon his return from Real Madrid back in September.
Should Tottenham buy Nick Pope?
Yes
No
Bale started just two Premier League games in the first-half of the campaign, but following some great form shown in the Europa League against Wolfsberger last month, sandwiched between an impressive cameo against West Ham, the flying winger is now getting regular minutes under Jose Mourinho.
Having produced a man-of-the-match display performance against Burnley last Sunday, the 31-year-old was rewarded with another start against Fulham in midweek, although he wasn’t able to continue his purple patch in Spurs’ 1-0 win.
That did continue in the 4-1 victory over Crystal Palace at the weekend where he netted a brace, and Windass is excited by Tottenham’s front-three, and Bale in particular.
He told Football FanCast:
“Zidane has said to Mourinho ‘you can take him on loan, but I want him to play. If he’s going to come to the football club, then he’s got to play’. You don’t become a bad player overnight, but you need minutes and you need to play, but he’s got some starts and he’s had a few goals and assists.
“He needs to play games, and I think if he does, there’s no better three than Son, Bale and Kane. You don’t earn £650,00o per-week if you’re a bad player, and he’s the key now for Tottenham. Forget about Kane and Son, they’re a given. You’re going to get goals and performances from them.”
It’s been a long time coming, but Bale is finally getting back to his best, and if Mourinho can keep him, Heung Min Son and Harry Kane all fit, then it might not turn out to be such a bad season after all for Spurs.
