Why Thomas Partey missed Watford clash

Thomas Partey missed Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Watford on Sunday afternoon due to a tight groin, the club has confirmed.

The Ghanaian was set to take his place in the middle of the park, was ruled out having picked the knock just before kick-off.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles took his place, lining up alongside Albert Lokonga, with Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe on the flanks.

The extent of the injury is yet to be determined, but the Gunners will be relieved knowing there is a two-week international break.

Back at the Emirates, Smith Rowe scored the only goal of the game as the Gunners continued with their good run in recent weeks.

The margin could have been bigger, but Pierre Emerick Aubameyang missed a first-half penalty after Alexander Lacazette was brought down inside the box.

The win lifted the Gunners to fifth in the standings on 20 points.
