West Ham duo shortlisted for player of the month award

It has been a strong start for the Hammers, off the back of their European qualification last campaign. The Londoners currently find themselves in second place in the Premier League, having picked up 7 points from a possible 9, and scoring 10 goals in the process.

Michael Antonio has been central to their successful start, breaking the West Ham goalscoring record in the process on his way to topping the goalscoring charts with 4, in addition to three assits.

As such, it is perhaps unsurprising that Antonio himself has been nominated for player of the month, but as has another Hammer. The man in question? Said Benrahma, the Algerian creator who has returned two goals and two assists in his 3 appearances.

The other candidates include Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso, Tottenham defender Eric Dier, teen sensation Mason Greenwood and Everton new boy Demarai Gray. Perhaps the biggest surprise was the omission of Paul Pogba, who has recorded 5 assists in his opening three games, although admittedly registering four in the season opener.

Moyes also up for an award

West Ham’s good start is further recognised in the manager of the month award, with David Moyes nominated for the award.
