Week 31 – Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United – Sport Grill

Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur continue their bid for a top four finish as they welcome Manchester United to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a blockbuster Super Sunday clash.

Victory will see Spurs climb to fifth should West Ham lose to Leicester earlier on Sunday, whereas Man Utd can cut their deficit to Manchester City down to 11 points with a win.

Serge Aurier and Toby Alderweireld are in contention for Tottenham after failing to report back from international duty in time, which forced the defensive duo to miss last Sunday’s 2-2 away draw at Newcastle.

Matt Doherty (muscle) and Ben Davies (calf) remain absent.

Man Utd could be without Paul Pogba after the French midfielder suffered a knock in Thursday evening’s Europa League victory at Granada.

Eric Bailly (Coronavirus), Anthony Martial and Phil Jones (both knee) remain absent.

Stat Attack

  • Tottenham have claimed seven points from their last five meetings against Man Utd (W2, D1, L2).
  • Man Utd have won just one of their last eight league trips to Spurs (W1, D4, L3).
  • Harry Kane has scored four goals in his last three home league games (W3).
  • Utd have failed to score in three of their last five away league matches (W1, D4), with three of those four draws finishing goalless.
  • This is Tottenham’s first home game refereed by Chris Kavanagh

Prediction

Having thrashed Utd 6-1 at Old Trafford in October, Tottenham really need a huge improvement in their defence which lacked any decent desire and gifted Newcastle a 2-2 draw last Sunday.

Man Utd meanwhile haven’t been at their best in the past week with scrappy yet clinical victories over Brighton and Granada, so it is difficult to predict what sort of Utd we will see here but their defence at least looks stronger than Spurs’ back four.

In all honesty, I really don’t know how to call this because we are either going to see a cracking contest or a boring encounter, which given United’s poor scoring form away from home makes me think it will be a latter.

Both teams however should have enough to scrap a goal apiece from this contest.

Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 Manchester United
