Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters pinpointed his side’s strength defensively following another clean sheet in the Boxing Day draw at Fulham.
The back four, which saw Jack Stephens replace the injured Jannik Vestergaard, returned their sixth clean sheet of the season at Craven Cottage during the 0-0 stalemate.
Both Shane Long and Theo Walcott had goals ruled out for offside during the second half as Saints pushed for all three points.
But Walker-Peters was keen to earmark the positives as Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side came away with just the solitary point.
“We always say defend first and we’ll always get chances,” he said. “If you don’t concede you have more chance of winning.
It was a tough game, but we stuck to our task.

“We’re all really happy with that clean sheet. We’re really happy with how solid we were.
“Fulham have some good attacking players and are a tough side so we had to be resilient to stop them creating any real clear-cut chances.
“The goals we scored were offside and VAR made the right decisions but it’s always frustrating.
“But on the flip side we’re happy we didn’t concede, we stuck to our task and came away with a point.
“It was a good point on the road which should hopefully take us a bit closer to the top four again.”
