The U.S. Under-20 men’s national team will look to claim a third-consecutive title at the rescheduled Concacaf U-20 Championship this summer in Honduras.
The U.S. U-20s were drawn into Group E for this summer’s tournament, which will run from June 18-July 4 in Honduras. Canada, Cuba, and Saint Kitts and Nevis were paired with Mikey Varas’ side in Group E, which was one of four seeded teams in Thursday’s draw.
Mexico, Panama, and Honduras were the other three seeded teams for the draw, which had a total of 16 teams split into four groups of four.
The USMNT U-20 will face Saint Kitts and Nevis on June 18, before taking on regional rivals Canada on June 20 and Cuba on June 22. Estadio Nacional in Tegucigalpa will serve as the host venue for all three of the USMNT’s group stage matches. San Pedro Sula’s Estadio Morazan and Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano will also serve as venues for the competition.
After the round-robin group stage, the top three teams in each of the four groups will advance to the 16-team knockout stage from June 25-July 3, joined by four group winners from a preliminary knockout round that was completed last November. Curaçao, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and Puerto Rico all clinched berths into the knockout round after topping their qualifying groups.
The four semifinalists in the tournament will advance to the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia, while the two finalists will qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Several of MLS’ top young talents have been called into the first two USMNT U-20 camps under Varas including Philadelphia Union midfielders Paxten Aaronson and Jack McGlynn, New York Red Bulls attacker Caden Clark, and San Jose Earthquakes forward Cade Cowell.
