Tottenham-oriented journalist Alasdair Gold has recently talked about Erik ten Hag, revealing some information about whether the club can sign the Dutchman.
Gold recently appeared in a live video on Football.london’s Tottenham page and the panel talked about numerous issues involving the north London-based club. Gold was asked about who his ideal managerial choice would be and the journalist picked Ten Hag as his option.
It has been suggested that Spurs have been in secret contact with several managers and one of them happens to be Ajax’s Ten Hag. Others include Ernesto Valverde and Ralf Rangnick.
Is Ten Hag a perfect fit for Tottenham?
Yes
No
Gold believes that while the Dutchman would tick all the boxes for Spurs, he’d be surprised if he leaves Ajax this summer.
He stated: “The one that ticks all the boxes for me, would be Erik ten Hag. I’d be surprised if Ajax were even to let him go, whether Tottenham go back to him even right now. For me, what he’s done at Ajax with a little budget, with young players.
“He came in as not a particularly popular choice, from what I understand from Dutch journalists and Ajax fans, because he didn’t have that Ajax history, he wasn’t steeped in it. He came from Utrecht. But he’s come in there and won everyone over, played good football.”
TIF Thoughts on Ten Hag to Spurs…
In his career so far, Ten Hag has won two Eredivisie titles, as well as two Dutch Cups. In the 2018/19 campaign, he took Ajax to the Champions League semi-final, when they lost to Tottenham themselves.
The likes of Donny van de Beek, Hakim Ziyech, Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt all played under him before they moved on from Ajax. It shows that he is certainly good at developing younger players, while adhering to a style of play that relies on attacking football.
Spurs are thought to be looking for a young manager who professes a modern brand of football and likes to work with young players, so Ten Hag could be a very good fit for the club.
