According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have contacted Cagliari about Nandez’s availability.

Spurs are not thought to have made an official bid for the midfielder, with the Italian club reportedly wanting €30million, around £25m.

Nandez is rumoured to be one of several players the Premier League club are monitoring and will make a decision shortly on whether to bid.

The Cagliari ace started his career in his native Uruguay, helping Penarol win the league title in 2015-16 to earn his first international cap.

He moved to Boca Juniors in August 2017 and won his second league title in his first season with the Argentine club, making 24 appearances.

Nandez’s impressive form persuaded Cagliari to spend $20m, around £14.5m, for his services in August 2019.

He’s since played 67 Serie A games for the Italian side and gone on to win 41 senior caps for Uruguay, featuring at this summer’s Copa America.

Tottenham’s transfer shortlist is thought to include Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic, with the club reportedly closing in on his signature.

But it appears they will miss out on Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez after his agent confirmed the player wants to stay in Italy.

Spurs and arch-rivals Arsenal have been linked with Martinez in recent weeks as the former consider a replacement for Harry Kane.

The England captain’s long-running transfer saga continues to rumble on, although he looks set to return to Tottenham duty shortly.
