Top 3 Southampton players to sign on FPL 2021/22

Who are Southampton’s best FPL assets?

Southampton are a fairly hard side to predict under Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The end of 2019/20 would see them kick on from a pretty awful start to eventually finish 11th in the league and only seven points off the top-six.

As a result, it was expected that the Saints would be a top-half side in 2020/21. This was not the case and Southampton instead ended the campaign down in 15th.

Their defence was their main issue last term and it is probably best to avoid their defenders on Fantasy Premier League.

However, they do still have some solid options further forward. Here are 101’s top three Southampton players for your FPL side.

Danny Ings, forward (8.0m)

Danny Ings is something of a risk for FPL managers, but he may be one worth taking.

Ings’ 2019/20 was superb, he would score 22 and assist four in the league from 38 league games.

A similar return was therefore expected in 2020/21 and we perhaps would have saw it if Ings was able to stay fit.

However, as has often been the case throughout his career, he did not and instead scored 12 and assisted four in 29 league games.

So, whilst Ings is a very good source of points when playing, the risk you need to take as an FPL manager is if you want to spend 8.0m on an injury-prone player.

Che Adams, forward (7.0m)

Che Adamas is 1.0m cheaper than Ings on FPL this year and may be one to consider if you need a low-cost forward option.

Adams is not as prolific as his teammate. He would score nine and assist seven in 2020/21. He is also much less injury-prone than Ings, which may persuade some to consider him over Ings.

However, if Ivan Toney of Brentford or Teemu Pukki of Norwich are able to find form this season, they are probably better options than Adams. The only issue with these players, of course, is that it is much harder to predict how well they will perform in newly-promoted sides.

James Ward-Prowse, midfielder (6.5m)

If you are looking for a budget midfield option, then James Ward-Prowse should be under consideration.

He would score eight and assists seven in the league in 2020/21, with his prolific set-piece taking making him a real asset at just 6.5m.

There may be better midfield options out there at the same price, like Raphinha at Leeds. But if you want two 6.5m mids, JWP could help fill that void and is probably a safer bet than some other options at a similar price point like Ismaila Sarr and Bukayo Saka.
