Arsenal midfielder Jordan Nobbs says that Saturday’s opponents Tottenham Hotspur have grown as a team and could provide The Gunners with their toughest North London derby test yet.
The two sides meet at The Hive as they open Women’s Football Weekend ’21. Arsenal have a 100% winning record in Barclays FA Women’s Super League North London derbies but Spurs are developing well under head coach Rehanne Skinner.
When speaking to FAWSL-Full-Time ahead of the match, Nobbs said that this weekend’s North London derby could be the toughest yet as Spurs are growing into a greater force in the top flight.
“I would think so,” Nobbs said when asked whether this derby will be tougher than previous meetings. “I think this season, they’ve shown that they have grown as a team.
“I think that we have comfortably beat them in the past but I think these type of teams are now getting harder to break down and then it only takes one or two chances to get the opportunity to get a goal.
“We are used to breaking down teams and the focus will be on us and how we win the game.”
The North London derby is always an extra special occasion for the fans but from a team preparation perspective, Nobbs said that Arsenal will treat the game like any other.
When asked whether Arsenal will prepare differently for the derby, Nobbs said “No I don’t think so, every game we want to win, we want to play well and show the fans what we can do.
“Naturally, there is more media attention after the game if you win a North London derby but I think that we just want to keep on striving to win every game.
“We are in a good place now but we have to carry on that momentum.”
