A mission of Steven Gerrard’s since he walked in the door at Ibrox was to have two players for every position – and he’s certainly done that now.
The Rangers manager named his starting XI for yesterday’s 3-0 win over Livingston and there were some very noticeable absences from the team.
And even with a second list of eleven players, there were still some absentees such as Jack Simpson, Stephen Kelly and Cedric Itten who can be used as well.
It’s a sign of just how much talent Gerrard has at his disposal when he can name two starting elevens and still have others who wouldn’t be involved.
When you then add in the likes of Jordan Jones and Brandon Barker, then you could also say it’s evidence that Rangers need to get rid of some players moving forward.

Gerrard started the game with Jon McLaughlin in goals, a back four of James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Leon Balogun and Calvin Bassey.
Steven Davis was joined in midfield by Joe Aribo and Glen Kamara, with Ianis Hagi and Ryan Kent supporting Fashion Sakala. It’s a pretty good eleven and it still has some big names to come into it.
Of course, some of the players in this ‘second XI’ are likely to start most weeks with the likes of Allan McGregor, Borna Barisic and Alfredo Morelos all included.
They’re joined by Nathan Patterson, Nikola Katic, Filip Helander, Ryan Jack, Scott Arfield, John Lundstram, Scott Wright and Kemar Roofe.
Not bad options for Gerrard and his staff.
The XI not named: McGregor, Patterson, Katic, Helander, Barisic, Jack, Arfield, Lundstram, Wright, Roofe, Morelos
