QUITO, June 10 (Xinhua) — Uncapped Independiente del Valle teenager Jose Hurtado has been included in a 28-man Ecuador squad for the Copa America, the country’s football federation said on Thursday.
The 19-year-old right-back was one of only six Ecuador-based players named by Argentine head coach Gustavo Alfaro for the continental tournament, to be played in Brazil from June 13 to July 10.
Alfaro omitted goalkeeper Moises Ramirez, defender Pedro Perlaza and midfielder Juan Cazares from the squad that lost to Brazil and Peru in World Cup qualifiers earlier this month.
Ecuador will begin their Copa America campaign against Colombia at Cuiaba’s Arena Pantanal on Sunday.
The Tricolor are bidding to win the tournament for the first time, having never finished higher than fourth.
Following is the Ecuador squad:
Goalkeepers: Alexander Dominguez, Hernan Galindez, Pedro Ortiz.
Defenders: Pervis Estupinan, Diego Palacios, Robert Arboleda, Xavier Arreaga, Felix Torres, Angelo Preciado, Piero Hincapie, Jose Andres Hurtado, Mario Pineida, Luis Leon.
Midfielders: Moises Caicedo, Jhegson Mendez, Alan Franco, Damian Diaz, Jose Carabali, Dixon Arroyo, Christian Noboa.
Forwards: Gonzalo Plata, Angel Mena, Enner Valencia, Michael Estrada, Leonardo Campana, Ayrton Preciado, Fidel Martinez, Jordy Caicedo.
