BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) — Talleres Cordoba missed the chance to reclaim top spot in Argentina’s Primera Division standings with a 3-0 defeat at Defensa y Justicia on Monday.
Two first-half goals from Miguel Merentiel and a late Hugo Silva strike ended a run of six games without a victory for Defensa dating back to August 25.
Sebastian Beccacece’s men are now 13th in the 26-team top-flight standings with 18 points from 14 matches.
Talleres, who were overtaken at the head of the table by River Plate on Sunday, are second, one point behind the Buenos Aires outfit.
In Monday’s only other Primera Division fixture, Banfield held defending champions Colon to a goalless draw in Santa Fe.
