FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution midfielder Tajon Buchanan has been called in to the Canada Men’s National Team for three upcoming FIFA Men’s World Cup Qualifying matches. Buchanan will join Canada for its upcoming fixtures featuring an away match at Mexico’s Estadio Azteca on October 7 (9:40 p.m. ET – Paramount+), a trip to Jamaica on October 10 (6:00 p.m. ET – Paramount+), and a home meeting with Panama on October 13 (7:30 p.m. ET – Paramount+).
Buchanan, 22, has earned all 12 of his senior caps in 2021 as he receives his fourth call up to the Canada Men’s National Team this year. The Brampton, Ontario native previously featured in four World Cup qualifying games in June and an additional three in September after he featured in all five of Canada’s matches at the 2021 Gold Cup. Buchanan was named the Gold Cup’s Best Young Player and earned a Best XI selection at the tournament.
For his international career, Buchanan owns two goals and four assists with Canada, including a two-assist performance for Les Rouges in his senior-team debut on June 6 vs. Aruba. In September’s FIFA World Cup qualifying matches, Buchanan started two of his three appearances and registered a goal and an assist.
Last month, Buchanan completed his transfer to reigning Belgian champions Club Brugge KV. He will remain with the Revolution on loan through the remainder of 2021 before joining the UEFA Champions League side in January. In MLS, Buchanan is enjoying a career year with seven goals and five assists, both personal bests, through 21 games played. The third-year pro owns 55 MLS appearances has totaled nine goals and nine assists in his career, including one additional tally in the playoffs.
The New England Revolution, currently atop the MLS Supporters’ Shield and Eastern Conference standings, return to action on Saturday, Oct. 16 vs. Chicago Fire FC at Gillette Stadium. The match kicks off at 7:00 p.m. ET on TV38, myRITV, CoziTV, 98.5 The Sports Hub, and 1260 AM Nossa Radio.
