An altogether surprising suitor has joined the race to sign out-of-favour Liverpool man Harry Wilson this summer, according to reports.
Reds product
24-year-old Wilson has been on the books of Liverpool for a full 15 years now, having made his way through the club’s youth ranks.
To this point, however, despite being highly-regarded, the versatile midfielder is yet to make a Premier League appearance for the Reds.
Instead, Wilson has been farmed out on a series of loan moves away from Anfield. The latest came last season, when the Welshman returned to his home country, to line out for Cardiff City.
And, as proved the case with Bournemouth in 2019/20, Wilson went on to impress, racking up a none-too-shabby seven goals and twelve assists in 37 Championship appearances.
This haul included a stunning hat-trick versus Birmingham in the Bluebirds’ penultimate outing of the campaign, featuring a pair of trademark free-kicks:

Benfica join the fray
Such exploits, however, look altogether unlikely to prove enough to secure Wilson a place in Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans back on Merseyside next season.
As such, with the midfielder himself no doubt desperate to avoid yet another loan move, a permanent sale could well be on the cards over the months ahead.
And, as outlined above, on Friday, a fresh insight into the situation has been provided.
As per reliable Liverpool journalist Neil Jones, both Brentford and West Bromwich Albion are expressing a keen interest in Wilson’s signature.
More surprising, though, is the claim that Portuguese heavyweights Benfica have also entered the fray. The Aguias are understood to have made a formal approach regarding a deal this week.
Their advances, however, were knocked back, with Benfica’s proposal having fallen well short of Liverpool’s asking price.
The Reds are said to be demanding £12 million for Wilson, having come to the decision that now is the right time to sanction a definitive sale for the club’s talented youth product.
Benfica among clubs chasing Harry Wilson this summer, have made an official approach although they are yet to get close to #LFC valuation (around £12m).
Brentford and West Brom also keen. Liverpool want permanent deal, not a loan.
