Sunderland appoint Durham coach Libbey as new assistant manager

Experienced coach Libbey has worked with The Wildcats for several years, first holding a role within the club’s development team before moving into a first team coaching role. She has helped the club to establish themselves in the higher reaches of the FA Women’s Championship table in recent years.

It has today been confirmed that Libbey will move to Sunderland to further her career as an assistant manager. She will assist Melanie Reay with The Lady Black Cats set to begin their first season back in the second tier.

After completing her move to Sunderland, Libbey said “I’m delighted to be here and really excited to get started. I’ve known Mel for a while now and when the opportunity came around it’s something I was very interested in. Sunderland are a well-established club within the women’s game, and I’m looking forward to being part of the project.”

Sunderland begin the new FA Women’s Championship season with a huge test against big-spending Coventry United. Reay and Libbey take their side to the Butts Park Arena on Sunday 29 August.
