England see off Germany
The first Euro 2020 round of 16 tie of the day played out a short time ago.
Said tie pitted England against Germany at Wembley. The Germans have enjoyed dominance over England throughout many of the last decades and have knocked them out of both Euro 96 and the 2010 World Cup.
However, on Tuesday, England finally put those demons to bed, sending the German’s home and booking their spot in the quarter-finals vs one of Sweden or Ukraine, who are in action later today.
Germany started the match the brighter of the two teams and had a decent chance saved by Jordan Pickford after Timo Werner was played in by Kai Havertz.

Harry Kane had the best chance of the first 45 right before the break, but was unable to control properly:

After scoring England’s first of the day, Raheem Sterling matched a record previously set by Gary Lineker.
As revealed by Opta, Sterling is only the second player to score each of England’s first three goals at the edition of a major tournament after Lineker did so at the 1986 World Cup.
