Spain vs Portugal, Euro 2020 warm up friendly LIVE

This is the start of our Euro 2020 warm up friendly match live blog. We’ll have the most recent entries nearest the top, with preview content coming up before the match and then minute-by-minute updates once the game kicks off. It should be a great one, so let’s enjoy it!

Minute 53 – Morata misses twice!

Morata should have got himself on the scoresheet with two excellent chances. The first he made a good run but put his shot straight at the goalkeeper. Then he got on the end of a Marcos Alonso cross with his first shot blocked, he fired the second attempt wide.

Minute 46 – Second half begins

With neither side able to get a shot on target in the first half, we are hoping that that will change as we go into the second 45 minutes. One change at the break sees Pote come on for Joao Felix.

HALF TIME: Spain 0-0 Portugal

Spain have had the better chances in the opening 45 minutes, with Fabian breaking the Portuguese defensive line only to be denied by Pepe, while Ferran should have put Spain in front. Cristiano Ronaldo has been relatively quiet.

Minute 45 – Portugal end well

As the first half came to an end, Portugal were looking more dangerous, particularly on the break. Though lacklustre finishing never really troubled Simon.

Minute 37 – Open game

The game is very open at the moment, but we are still to see either of the goalkeepers really tested. Simon did get a little lucky as he strangely volleyed a high ball straight at Ronaldo, before gathering the rebound.

Minute 27 – Great chance

Spain steal the ball high up the park and Morata attacks the left side before putting in a brilliant cross with the outside of his left foot, the ball sailed over Pepe and into the path of Ferran, who could only put his close ranger header just wide. He should have at least got it on target.

Minute 23 – Portugal goal ruled out

A brilliant header from Font sees him beat Unai Simon, but the referee had already blown his whistle for a foul against the defender.

Minute 20 – Spain dominant

We are almost midway through he first half and it is Spain who are looking sharper and more dangerous. Luis Enrique has clearly targeted Nelson Semedo’s flank, while Laporte has looked impressive thus far, especially his long passes.

Minute 10 – Spain looking good

Some excellent movement and passing from Spain saw them almost get in on goal as Sarabia cuts in against Semedo and plays Fabian past the defence, but a brilliant touch from Pepe sees the danger averted.
