SEATTLE, WASH. – After a 1-1 draw against Vancouver Whitecaps FC to end the 2021 regular season, second-seeded Seattle Sounders FC (17-8-9, 60 points) hosts Real Salt Lake (14-14-6, 48 points) in Round One of the Audi 2021 MLS Cup Playoffs on Tuesday, November 23 at Lumen Field. RSL qualified for the postseason with a 95th-minute winner against Sporting Kansas City on Decision Day to take the seventh and final spot in the Western Conference.

Tuesday marks the sixth all-time postseason match between Seattle and Real Salt Lake, across three different playoff meetings (2011, 2012, 2019). The Rave Green hold a 3-1-1 edge, having eliminated RSL in 2012 and 2019. Sounders FC has not lost since the first postseason meeting on October 29, 2011 and has shut out Real Salt Lake in every matchup since.

The Rave Green and Real Salt Lake split the regular season series in 2021, with both sides winning on their home turf. Seattle took a 2-1 win at Lumen Field back on June 23 before Real Salt Lake bagged a 1-0 victory at Rio Tinto Stadium on September 18.

Overall, Real Salt Lake holds a slight advantage in the regular season series with a 13-12-5 mark. The Utah side also has a 35-34 goal differential advantage in the 30 matchups between them.

If Seattle wins on Tuesday, it will host Sporting Kansas City in the Western Conference Semifinals after the Midwestern side defeated Vancouver Whitecaps FC 3-1 on Saturday in its Round One matchup. A win for RSL would see the side travel to Sporting Kansas City. In both cases the semifinal game would take place on Sunday, November 28 at 12:00 p.m. PT, being aired nationally on ABC.
