INDIO, CALIF. – As 2022 preseason continues this week from Palm Springs, Sounders FC faced off against Western Conference rival LA Galaxy on Thursday at the Empire Polo Club. It was the third competitive action of the year for Seattle, after facing Portland and Colorado during the club’s first out-of-town training camp in Tucson.

Thursday’s preseason friendly featured a pair of 90-minute scrimmages, with Head Coach Brian Schmetzer deploying a separate lineup for each contest. Seattle’s XI for the opening match was comprised of First Team players, while the lineup for the second 90 minutes featured a combination of First Team players, 2021 Tacoma Defiance players, Sounders FC Academy players and unsigned SuperDraft selections.

The first 90-minute scrimmage ended 1-1, with Raúl Ruidíaz scoring the lone goal for Seattle on an assist from Albert Rusnák in the 41st minute. In the second scrimmage, Seattle went up 2-0 in the opening 30 minutes via Fredy Montero and Sam Adeniran, before surrendering four unanswered tallies in a Galaxy win.

Sounders FC continues camp in Palm Springs until Tuesday, February 15, when the club heads to Honduras for the first leg of a home-and-away series against F.C. Motagua in the 2022 Concacaf Champions League. Seattle plays in Honduras on February 17 before hosting Motagua on February 24 at Lumen Field.
