Sevilla vs Las Palmas pre-match info and previous XIs:

Sevilla will be looking to build on what was a very positive 2020/21 campaign this time around, with Los Nervionenses ending the season in fourth place, just nine points adrift of eventual La Liga winners Atletico Madrid but 15 ahead of Real Sociedad in fifth. Champions League football will once again bring its own unique challenges, so Lopetegui will want to get his squad finely tuned during these friendlies so they can hit the ground running.

As for Las Palmas, they’ll be looking for a serious improvement on their ninth-place finish last season as they seek to mount a serious promotion challenge. This will be a fourth straight campaign La Union Deportiva have had to endure in the second tier and during that time, they’ve never really threatened to return to La Liga, finishing 12th in 2019 and ninth twice since.

  • Sevilla (vs Coventry City): Bono; Gomez, Fernando, Rekik; Navas, Jordan, Rakitic, Sanchez; Suso, Torres, Rodriguez.
  • Las Palmas (vs Espanyol): Valles; Navas, Curbelo, Ferigra; Lemos, Alonso, Gonzalez, Cardona; Penaranda, Garcia, Moleiro.

Key player: Youssef En-Nesyri (Sevilla)

With 18 goals in La Liga alone — at least 13 more than any other player at the club — Youssef En-Nesyri was comfortably Sevilla’s prime attacking threat last season. And that record is made all the more impressive when considering he started just 23 of his 38 appearances.

The Morocco international has been linked with a move to the Premier League with West Ham recently, though leaving a Champions League regular for Europa League football seems farfetched to say the least.

But for now, En-Neysri will be fully focused on kick-starting his pre-season campaign ready for the testing season ahead, during which Sevilla will be looking to bring home silverware and stay in touch with the title pack for as long as possible. To achieve that, they’ll need their top marksman high on confidence.
