Serie A Report: Inter Milan 1-1 Juventus

The Italian Derby ended up in a draw as the game between Inter Milan and Juventus finished 1-1 after full time. Inter got an early goal and almost maintained their lead till the end but a penalty at the dying embers saved Juventus and both sides walked off the pitch with a point.

Inter Milan broke Juventus’s 9 year domination in the Serie A last season and not the Old Lady has a chance for redemption. Inter are flying high since they are 3rd in the table but in terms of current form, Juventus has got the better of the home side. Juve has won their last 4 games in a row and despite their horrendous start to the campaign, Allegri has managed to hold the fort and pull his side together. Inter Milan on the other hand lost their last game against Lazio and need get back to their winning ways to close the gap between them and the league leaders.

Inter scored the opening goal of the derby after Calhanoglu takes a bold shot from far up the pitch that struck the crossbar and Dzeko tapped the ball in after the deflection. Just minutes after getting close to conceding, Inter managed to score in the 17th minute of the game. Both sides went hammer and togs in the first 45 as nearly equal goal scoring chances were created by Juve and Inter but unfortunately, the away side had nothing to show for in the scoresheet.

Juventus received a penalty after a VAR check in the 87th minute of the game as Dumfries missed the ball and caught Alex Sandro just inside the penalty box and Juve got their golden chance to equalize. A confident Dybala stepped up at the spot and equalized the score almost effortlessly. A tightly fought 90 minutes by both Italian giants but the game need without a winner as the gap between the league leaders and other increases even more.

JUVENTUS WERE MORE AGGRESSIVE

Juventus maintained a high press right from kick-off and they maintained the same energy and aggressiveness till the end of the game. Inter’s backline struggled to deal with the ball when in possession and their sloppy passing nearly caused them to concede a couple of goals but Juventus failed to capitalise on the chances. Alvaro Morata, Kulusevski and Cuadrado all were responsible for the high press and broke the connection between Inter’s attacking and defensive half.

INTER STRONG AT TRANSITIONAL PLAY

Inter Milan created lesser but better goal scoring chances than Juventus love the course of the 90. This was essentially because of their smooth and quick transitional play. Juventus were far more aggressive than Inter which is why they had to make the most out of their chances. Their quick movement both on and off the ball and long passes helped them move the ball upfield and catch Juventus off guard, however, they too failed to finish the ball efficiently.

SUPER SUBS

Allegri decided to sub Paulo Dybala and Federico Chiesa, arguably two of their best attacking players, on the 65th minute and the whole dynamic of the game changed form thereon. Both players played on opposite flanks but together constructed a number of link-up plays and kept pushing Inter’s backline to its limits. After continuously bombarding attack after an attack, Inter gave away a penalty and the side managed to salvage a point of the game despite being behind the whole game.
