Speaking at his farewell press conference, Sergio Ramos discussed leaving the club after 16 years.
“I came here as a child and I leave with the greatness of the people who have always been with me. You are never ready to say goodbye to Real Madrid but the time has come. Nothing will ever be like what I have experienced here. I’ll always keep Real Madrid in my heart. This is a see you later because sooner or later I will return to Real Madrid.”
“My first choice was to stay. I received a 1-year offer with a salary cut. The money wasn’t an issue, I wanted a 2-year contract for myself and my family. I accepted the 1-year offer in the end, but the club informed me that the offer was no longer on the table.”
Ramos is joint-second on the all-time list for titles won at Real Madrid with 22. Only Paco Gento, who won six European Cups, has more with 23 overall.
The club legend’s future remains up in the air. PSG and Manchester City have both been linked with a move for the 35-year-old.
