FIFA ultimatum could keep El Tri out of World Cup
Sergio Ramos held a press conference after Real Madrid announced that the player was set to leave the club after not coming to an agreement on a contract extension.
Ramos talked about a number of things and also mentioned that there was an offer from the club he was willing to accept until it was pulled at the last minute.
“I never wanted to leave Real Madrid, I always wanted to stay here,” Ramos said. “In the last few months the club made me an offer of one year, with a pay cut. I want to highlight that money has never been a problem, the president knows that.
“It’ wasn’t a financial problem. They offered me one year, I wanted two. I wanted calm and continuity for my family … In the latest conversations, I accepted the offer with a pay cut, and I was told there was no longer an offer.”

According to Ramos, he was willing to take a pay cut and was unaware that there was an expiration date on the offer presented by the club. It took him by surprise.
Regardless, he had no bad words to say about Perez and expressed his gratitude towards the Real Madrid president. For his part, the club sent out a post on their social media where he thanked Ramos for all that he’s done for Madrid.
What’s next for Ramos after Real Madrid?
The question on everybody’s mind now is where Ramos will play next season. It appears that going back to Sevilla has been discarded given his wage demands.
The 35-year-old center-back also took the time to discard Barcelona, which, no one truly thought was ever an option. He’s been linked to different clubs in England as well as Paris Saint-Germain in France.
Ramos leaves Madrid having made 671 appearances for the club and scoring 101 goals since arriving from Sevilla back in 2005 – perhaps none bigger than the one against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League final that led to Los Blancos winning “La Decima.”
