A stunning 14-bedroom mansion has gone on the market for £3million three years after ex-Rangers director Paul Murray sold it.

Faldonside House in the Melrose area of the Scottish Borders has seven reception rooms and eight bathrooms and covers over 13,000 sq feet.

It was once home to Mr Murray, 57, before the former director sold the mansion for £2million in 2018 just months after he stepped down from his three-year stint at Rangers.

Before and after photos show how the multi-million property underwent a major facelift over the past three years, with some rooms unrecognisable.

The plush pad also boasts a tennis court, cinema room, stables and paddocks, a home gym and an extra three-bedroom flat.

Estate agents selling the multi-million property say it has since undergone a ‘full refurbishment’ over the past few years, including a complete interior redecoration.

The new owners added new bedrooms and bathrooms – and even added a ‘cinema room’ with a giant flat-screen TV and enormous sofas.

However, some rooms have stayed the same, including a jaw-dropping dining room with thistle wallpaper.

The grounds even have a meadow, a treehouse, golf greens and trout fishing.

The listing reads: “The original part began as a simple, classical three-bay villa with a column port dating from around 1800.

Ex-Rangers director Paul Murray once owned the house

“It was enlarged in the late 19th century when wings were added and the front of the house was refaced in matching stone.

“There is a wide reception hall, three main reception rooms and a modern kitchen/breakfast room which, together with the link room, garden room and home cinema (or play room), was added in 2006.

“The drawing room is exceptional as is the home-cinema with its octagonal shape, double height ceiling and six sets of French windows leading onto the terrace.

“The accommodation also includes two “home” offices and a gymnasium; concealed in the dining room is a walk-in chiller. The graceful staircase, leads to the first floor.

“It has a wonderfully light and bright atmosphere with adaptable accommodation and well-proportioned, formal reception rooms, which retain a number of period features.

“These combined with the reception hall make it a superb family house, excellent for entertaining.

“It is well-maintained both inside and out, and is beautifully presented.”

Businessman Murray, and his wife Gillian bought the mansion for £1.5million back in 2003, according to the Evening Times.
