November 12, 2020 is a date that will be remembered for quite some time in Scotland, as it was the day they secured their spot in a major tournament for the first time since the 1998 World Cup. After being handed a tough qualifying group alongside Belgium and Russia, Scotland were given a second chance at reaching at Euro 2020 through the Nations League play-off path. Steve Clarke’s men first beat Israel on penalties in the semi-finals and then repeated the feat in the final against Serbia, with David Marshall the hero, saving Aleksandar Mitrovic’s final spot-kick.
Czech Republic, on the other hand, won their qualification to Euro 2020 by finishing second in Group A behind England. Jaroslav Silhavy’s men won five and lost three of their eight qualification games, with one of their victories coming against England in Prague to avenge a 5-0 defeat in their opening group game. Czech Republic have an interesting relationship with the European Championships, finishing runners-up in their first appearance post-Czechoslovakia (in England in 1996) before bowing out at the group stage in 2000. Semi-finals and quarter-finals appearances have been intertwined with group-stage exits, including in 2016 when Czech Republic were eliminated without a win.

Players to watch:
- Scotland: Che Adams only made his Scotland debut in March, but he has wasted little time in elevating himself to become Clarke’s first-choice striker. The Leicester-born striker is eligible to represent Scotland through a maternal grandparent and after an initial approach from the Scottish FA in 2017, finally committed himself to the nation ahead of Euro 2020. Adams enjoyed a decent season for Southampton, scoring nine goals and recording five assists in the Premier League, but he has especially shone for Scotland. In just four appearances, Adam has scored two goals including one in each of his past two games, netting in wins over Faroe Islands and Luxembourg.
- Czech Republic: In direct competition with Adams for goalscoring in this game will be Patrik Schick who matched his Scottish counterpart in league goals, managing nine in the Bundesliga for Bayer Leverkusen. However, Schick ended the Bundesliga campaign slightly out of form, failing to score in his final seven appearances, starting five of those. Schick hasn’t had the best of luck at international level too, but that has been more due to injuries ruling him out of representing his country. Returning to the Czech Republic set up in March, for the first time since October 2019, Schick scored in a 6-2 win over Estonia and netted again in their final warm-up match, a 3-1 victory against Albania.
