San Diego Wave FC Acquires Rights to Swedish International Sofia Jakobsson Via Transfer with Bayern Munich

SAN DIEGO – San Diego Wave Fútbol Club announced today that the club has acquired the rights to Swedish international Sofia Jakobsson via transfer with Bayern Munich. Jakobsson, one of the world’s most dominant strikers, will join Wave FC pending receipt of her International Transfer Certificate and P1 visa.


Jakobsson, 31, comes to Wave FC by way of Bayern Munich, although spent most of the 20-21 season at Spanish club Real Madrid. For Las Blancas the Swede scored eight goals and seven assists in 33 matches to lead the team. At the club level, Jakobsson is one of the most lethal finishers in the game tallying 113 goals over the course of her career. She has also been a mainstay for Sweden since 2011, having played in over 100 international matches for her country, including appearances at the 2011, 2015 and 2019 World Cups. At the 2019 World Cup, Jakobsson notched the game winning goal in the third-place match and has scored a total of 23 international goals.

“Sofia is a natural goal scorer and a proven winner at the highest levels of the game,” said Wave FC head coach Casey Stoney. “She’ll bring yet another scoring threat to Wave FC’s attack.
