Casemiro’s move to Manchester United has been the talk of football since it emerged the midfielder was coming to England.
The Premier League side announced they have a deal in place to sign the Real Madrid man, with a UK visa and a medical still to be sorted.
The deal will be worth £60million, with the Brazilian set to sign a four-year contract at the club.
Erik ten Hag has been desperate to bring in some big-name signings this summer after overseeing a torrid start to the new season.
Defeat to Brighton on the opening day was followed up by a 4-0 hammering at the hands of Brentford, a particularly low moment for the United fanbase.
With a tough season ahead, some may question Casemiro’s decision to leave the luxury of playing for the European champions in Madrid.
Even some of the biggest brands in the world are getting involved in the banter.
With a mocked up boarding pass for a flight from Madrid [MAD] to Manchester [Man], the social media team at Ryanair decided to have some fun.
Taking to Twitter, Ryanair wrote: “An absolute MAD MAN.”
There is also talk that he could wear the no.18 shirt, which has previously belonged to Paul Scholes.
He will not be able to play for the club against Liverpool, but may be presented to fans before the game at Old Trafford on Monday, which is live on talkSPORT.
On a more serious note, ex-Republic of Ireland striker Tony Cascarino questioned United’s £60m move for the 30-year-old, raising concerns over his fitness.
Cascarino compares the deal to United’s signing of defender Raphael Varane from Real Madrid in 2021 – and the jury is still out on that one.
He said: “It’s a big fee for a holding midfielder that is neccessary at the football club.
“I said last year when they bought Varane that he’s not the player who won the Champions League, he’s not quite as good as that anymore.
“I wouldn’t say that about Casemiro now because I watched him last year and he still has a lot to offer, but I looked at Varane and thought he wasn’t the same player because he had a lot of injuries in his career.
“One thing that Casemiro does is pick up a lot of cards. He does a lot of fouls, but some Man United fans will think that they need someone to break up the play and to stop the opposition, but it’s a big price to pay.”
