Bruno Fernandes netted a double and Cristiano Ronaldo got on the scoresheet as European champions Portugal prepared for their title defence with a 4-0 win over Israel on Wednesday.
Portugal scored two goals on the stroke of half-time from Fernandes (42’) and Ronaldo (44’), who was released by the Manchester United man, in Lisbon.
Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo cut inside for a spectacular 86th minute strike, before Fernandes lashed another into the top corner to seal the win.
The first part, not being extraordinary, was good,” Portugal boss Fernando Santos told RTP.
“We did very well in the first 20 minutes, with great intensity in the various moments of play, circulating the ball well and looking for the flanks.
“Then we had a quarter of an hour with less urgency but we accelerated towards the end and ended up scoring two goals.”
For Euro 2020, Portugal are in Group F, which looms as the toughest pool available, alongside world champions France, European heavyweights Germany and Hungary.
“There are many things to improve, certainly,” Santos added.
“Now let’s rest and calmly prepare for the Euros. This team has a huge will and an excellent team spirit.”
Portugal’s Euros campaign begins against Hungary in Budapest on Tuesday.
