Ronaldo rips into teammates during Atalanta match

Cristiano Ronaldo has – as expected – already made an impact for Manchester United on the pitch since his arrival back at Old Trafford following a summer move from Juventus.

With 6-goals across eight appearances for the Red Devils, including three in three during the club’s Champions League group stage campaign, Ronaldo has continued right where he left off before departing the club for Real Madrid back in the summer of 2009.

But Ronaldo is not just the frontman of a bloated United attack under Ole Gunnar Solskjær, and his leadership qualities were put on display during Wednesday night’s clash with neutral fan favorite Atalanta Bergamo at Old Trafford.

United eventually sealed all three points in a 3-2 thriller against Gian Piero Gasperini’s outfit thanks to a Ronaldo winner just 9-minutes from full time, but the Portuguese icon’s half-time tirade made headlines after he dubbed his side’s first-half performance “unacceptable” after the Red Devils went into the dressing room 2-0 down at the interval.

According to the Metro, citing the Sun via a United source, Ronaldo had strong words for his teammates amid a dismal display in front of the home support;

‘Cristiano addressed the whole team and told them that the performance was unacceptable. He asked if they were not ashamed and said this was not how Manchester United perform in front of their own fans. He told them they needed to win the game and, if they didn’t, they might not qualify for the next stage of the Champions League.’

Portuguese determined to bag trophies in second United stint

And despite the story on paper of a 36-year-old forward returning to a beloved club in the twilight of his career, Ronaldo insists that he is here to succeed during his second spell in the northwest of England.

In an interview with SkySports, the Portuguese was adamant when he stated that “I am here to win trophies. I am not here on holiday.”

Thus far, his goal return and willingness to try to lift the team around him is proof positive of a competitive nature and desire to continue his legacy following his return to Old Trafford. If the result against Atalanta is any evidence, Ronaldo is already having the desired effect in United colors once more.
