Cristiano Ronaldo reveals how much he dislikes Coca-Cola, tells people to drink water

Cristiano Ronaldo: Drink water, not Coca-Cola

Portugal talisman and global footballing icon Cristiano Ronaldo has caused a commercial stir in his press conference ahead of the match with Hungary.

Ronaldo was due to answer questions alongside Portugal head coach Fernando Santos and as he sat down noticed some strategically placed bottles of Coca-Cola on the table.

As he did, he picked both of them up and moved them out of the shot.

Lifting up his bottle of water he simply said, “Water.”

Ronaldo historically has not been a fan of his own son drinking fizzy drinks and crisps.

“We’ll have to wait and see if my son becomes a great player. At times he eats crisps and drinks fizzy drinks and he knows that makes me angry, but I guess that’s normal behaviour for a ten-year-old boy,” Ronaldo said in 2020.

“He has the potential to be good as he is fast and can beat players. That said, he needs to work hard and show dedication. I won’t apply any pressure on him but if you ask me if I’d like to see him succeed in football, then I’d say ‘yes’.

“However, I want the best for him always and that’s irrespective if he becomes a footballer or a doctor.”

The Messi Pepsi narrative

Ronaldo’s rivalry with Lionel Messi has been a long-standing one. Throughout both their careers they have battled to be the best footballer on the planet.

Commercially, they are also both huge sponsor hooks and have represented a number of products gaining significant income from them.

However, whilst Ronaldo is averse to promoting fizzy drinks, his Barcelona rival has seemingly very little against it.

Messi has featured in commercials and adverts for Pepsi, a huge rival of Coca-Cola.

Coca-Cola are partnered with the European Championships hence why the bottles were placed in front of the Juve forward.
