River Plate’s Armani sidelined due to groin strain

BUENOS AIRES, Sep. 3 (Xinhua) — River Plate and Argentina international goalkeeper Franco Armani faces a period on the sidelines because of a groin strain.

The 35-year-old suffered the injury in the first half of River’s 4-0 win at Defensa y Justicia in the Copa Argentina round of 16 on Thursday.

The shot-stopper is also in doubt for Argentina’s international friendlies against Honduras on September 23 and Jamaica four days later.

The injury is likely to provide a rare opportunity for River’s 25-year-old backup goalkeeper Ezequiel Centurian, who replaced Armani at halftime against Defensa.
