FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution (4-5-4; 16 pts.) will visit Sporting Kansas City (3-8-4; 14 pts.) on Sunday afternoon at Children’s Mercy Park. The nationally televised match kicks off at 3:00 p.m. ET on ABC and ESPN Deportes in Spanish. Sunday’s contest also airs locally on the radio via 98.5 The Sports Hub, with Brad Feldman and Charlie Davies calling the action, and 1260 AM Nossa Radio in Portuguese.
The Revolution, 1-1-1 against Western Conference opponents this season, return to MLS play following an unbeaten month of May. New England last matched up with Sporting Kansas City on April 27, 2019, when the two teams battled to a thrilling 4-4 stalemate. New England trails the all-time series 18-25-12, though the Revolution have registered five wins and one draw in the last eight encounters. Under the guidance of longtime manager Peter Vermes, Kansas City has gotten off to a slow start in 2022, managing a league-low 13 goals, though they perform well at home with a 3-2-2 mark at Children’s Mercy Park.
New England’s most recent match, a 1-1 draw with the Philadelphia Union at Gillette Stadium on May 28, saw forward Gustavo Bou’s first appearance in the starting lineup since returning from a leg injury. The Argentinian opened his 2022 account with a penalty-kick goal in the 75th minute, marking his 30th regular season goal to claim sole possession of 10th place on the club’s all-time scoring list. Midfielder Dylan Borrero collected his first appearance at Gillette Stadium, as the 20-year-old Colombian has logged shifts off the bench in two straight games since his arrival in May. Also in the attack, midfielder Sebastian Lletget leads the Revolution with two goals and two assists in 10 career games played against Kansas City, while MLS MVP Carles Gil has distributed six assists in his last six league appearances.
Sunday’s match could also feature the MLS debut of Revolution newcomer Djordje Petrović, a 22-year-old Serbian goalkeeper acquired in April to bolster the position in preparation for Matt Turner’s departure to Arsenal FC later this month. With Turner currently on duty with the U.S. Men’s National Team in Concacaf Nations League play, Petrović will look to build on the two appearances he collected for the Revolution in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. In his last outing, Petrović tallied a six-save performance New York City FC in the Round of 16 on May 25.
