Red Bulls Fall to Chicago Fire FC 1-0 at Red Bull Arena

The New York Red Bulls (6-10-4, 22 points) fell to Chicago Fire FC (6-11-5, 23 points), 1-0, at Red Bull Arena on Saturday night.

Chicago opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, when defender Carlos Teran delivered a long throw-in into New York’s eighteen-yard box. After an attempted clearance, the ball landed right to the feet of forward Robert Beric, who gave Chicago the lead.


Goalkeeper Carlos Coronel recorded three saves in the match and moved into a tie for eighth place in MLS in saves.

New York Captain Sean Davis made his 158th MLS regular season appearance and is one match away from tying Dane Richards for fifth in franchise history.

Defender Kyle Duncan will be suspended for New York’s next match after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season.

Nine of New York’s 10 losses have been one-goal losses, including tonight. The Red Bulls lone multi-goal loss was against New England Revolution when they went down to 10-men due to a red card.

Following Saturday’s match, the FIFA International break will run through Wednesday, September 8. New York will battle rivals D.C. United in the second round of the Atlantic Cup on Saturday, September 11 at Red Bull Arena.
