Real Salt Lake’s Douglas Martinez Named to Honduras Olympic Roster

HERRIMAN, UTAH – Real Salt Lake forward Douglas Martinez has been named to the Honduras roster for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. The 2020 Olympic Games are set to begin later this month.


Martinez was part of the squad that helped Honduras to a second-place finish in Concacaf Olympic Qualifying where he scored a goal against El Salvador.

Honduras were drawn into Group B for the tournament and will face New Zealand, Romania and South Korea in the Group Stage with the first match kicking off on July 22. Of the 16 teams placed into four groups, the top two teams from each group will move on to the knockout stage which will begin July 31.

Martinez is currently in his third season with Real Salt Lake where he has scored two goals in 25 appearances in Major League Soccer. In 2019, Martinez helped Real Monarchs to the 2019 USL Championship title, scoring 17 goals in 25 matches played. This season, Martinez has scored one goal and added an assist for the Monarchs in 2021.

Real Salt Lake hosts LAFC on Saturday, July 3 at 8:00 p.m. MT in Rio Tinto Stadium’s return to full capacity since March 7, 2020. A limited number of tickets are available and can be purchased by visiting RSL.com.
