It’s claimed that Odegaard wasn’t looking forward to rejoining Real under Zinedine Zidane, with his Arsenal loan spell now over.
Yet with Zidane gone and Carlo Ancelotti in, Odegaard seemingly feels that he will get more of a chance at Real, and more excited than he would have been.
Odegaard contract talks now imminent
Not only do Real now think they can keep Odegaard, but they want to enter into talks to extend his contract.
His current contract runs until the summer of 2023, meaning they want to get his future sorted sooner rather than later.
That would of course be a disastrous development for Arsenal, who want to bring the Norwegian back to North London this summer.
Arsenal’s pursuit of Odegaard return
Last week, Football.London reported that Edu was still convinced that he could bring Odegaard back to Arsenal, whether on loan or permanently.
They then added that talks were ongoing with Real, but this latest development means a return for Odegaard now looks a little unlikely.
The 22-year-old played 14 league games for Arsenal, bagging one goal and two assists – and after missing out on Emiliano Buendia, being unable to sign Odegaard would be another major blow for Arsenal.
