Real Madrid are still very keen on keeping Sergio Ramos beyond the current expiry date of his contract in the summer of 2021. The veteran defender and club captain has been in talks with the club about his contract for months and there have been several rumours that Ramos would be prepared to leave Madrid to take up a new adventure in his career.
Reports from Spain have now reported that Madrid will be making one last effort to keep Ramos at their club. Zinedine Zidane is also keen on keeping Ramos as the French coach considers his captain as a vital part of the team. Madrid have offered Ramos a one-year contract extension worth around €12m. While Ramos could agree on the salary, he prefers to sign a new multi-year contract, securing his long-term future with the club.
While Madrid is open to the idea of keeping Ramos on a longer contract, the club wants to push through their one-year offer and then re-negotiate terms next season when the COVID-19 Pandemic has been cleared and the economic situation of clubs all around Europe has improved. Reports have claimed that Ramos has caught the interest of several big teams across Europe as well as several teams from China and the Major League Soccer.
