Pressure comes with the territory at Ajax where Erik ten Hag seeks a third consecutive Dutch championship. Last season the Amsterdammers were in relentless mode having won 28 of their 34 league matches and tasting just two defeats. Dusan Tadic and company would bag 102 goals — only the third occasion this century they smashed the 100-goal barrier — and conceded 23 times. De Godenzonen also helped themselves to another KNVB title but couldn’t recapture that Champions League from a few seasons back. In turn, reaching the European Cup knockout phase is a major target for the Eredivisie champions, by adding Steven Berghuis from rivals Feyenoord the hope is his added firepower could help them in reaching that goal. Player to watch: Brian Brobbey (RB Leipzig)
This friendly could see an immediate reunion between Brian Brobbey and his former teammates. The 19-year-old marksman opted to leave Ajax earlier this year in a pursuit for more regular playing time. Brobbey — who came up the ranks with current Ajax first-teamers Jurrien Timmer and Devyne Rensch — featured 19 times under Erik ten Hag last season and bagged six goals with the most notable coming away to Lille in their Europa League round of 32 first leg game. There were reports he had signer’s remorse following Julian Nagelsmann’s departure but that is seemingly no longer the case. Brobbey could feature here but the competition to lead Leipzig’s line is fierce. Alexander Sørloth is currently in possession of that ‘number nine’ spot and if the Amsterdam-born teenager is to usurp him then he needs to hit the ground running whenever Jesse Marsch hands him that first opportunity.
