PRAISE FOR NEW BOYS

By Iain Collin

Jack Ross is thrilled to see new signings Daniel Mackay and Jake Doyle-Hayes hit the ground running at Hibernian.

Mackay grabbed a goal as the Easter Road side kicked off their pre-season preparations with a 4-1 victory against Dunfermline on Saturday.

The fresh faces each played 45 minutes in the friendly behind closed doors at the Hibernian Training Centre.

Boss Ross fielded different teams in each half against the Pars.

Winger Mackay, 20, penned a pre-contract agreement with Hibs in May to join from Inverness, while midfielder Doyle-Hayes, 22, signed a two-year deal last week after spending last term with St Mirren.

Mackay’s first-half opener was added to after the break by goals from Jamie Murphy, Steven Bradley and Connor Young as the capital outfit saw off the Fifers, who hit a late goal through Kevin O’Hara.

After a tough first week of training, Ross was satisfied by what he saw from his new recruits — and the rest of the squad.

He said: “Dan’s a little bit different because he had some time with us at the end of last season to familiarise himself with the group.

“But in essence this is a new start for him, and Jake has been in for a few days.

“So, for both of them to get some game action is good.

“It’s an easy group for them to come into, this group of players, but all players want to show what they can do in a match as well.

“So it was nice for them both to get that opportunity and they played well.

“The pleasing aspect for me and the staff was that, across the game, not just from those players but from every single one of them on the pitch there were really positive performances.”
