Racing Louisville FC has bolstered its back line with the signing of veteran center back and Jamaican national team member Satara Murray, the club announced Monday.

Racing previously claimed Murray’s NWSL playing rights by adding her to its discovery list. Murray, who most recently featured for England’s Bristol City FC, signed a two-year contract with an option for 2024.

The 28-year-old defender has arrived in Louisville and will be available for selection after the transfer window opens June 1.

“Satara comes in with a lot of club experience,” said Racing coach Kim Björkegren. “She is a physical and strong center back. She is quick and not easy to beat 1-on-1.”

During Bristol City’s 2021-2022 FA Women’s Championship campaign, Murray appeared in all 22 matches with the Robins, plus three cup games, as the club finished third in the league and reached the fourth round of the FA Cup and the final of the FA Women’s League Cup.

Murray has prior NWSL experience, too, spending 2019 with the Houston Dash, where she started all nine matches in which she appeared. A 2020 stint with Norwegian club Kolbotn followed.

To start her professional career, Murray played four seasons for English powerhouse Liverpool. She totaled 66 appearances for the Reds, spending three alongside current Racing captain and center back Gemma Bonner.

A graduate of the University of North Carolina, Murray is a two-time All-American who won the 2012 NCAA College Cup with the Tar Heels, earning defensive player of the tournament honors.

“I’m so excited to be here and hope to bring a championship home to Louisville,” Murray said. “It’s a great team and a great club with great facilities. I’m excited to get started.”

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Murray was eligible to represent the United States, England, Guyana, Jamaica and Antingua and Barbuda at the international level. She debuted for Jamaica in an October 2021 friendly against Costa Rica, a 1-1 draw that also featured Racing forward Cheyna Matthews.
