Liverpool have been linked with an extraordinary move for Chelsea wideman Christian Pulisic.
Reports in The Mail Online suggest that the Reds are on “alert” ahead of a potential swoop for the American following a lack of action for him at Stamford Bridge.
With Real Madrid reportedly wanting to recruit current Reds’ star Mo Salah, Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards may have already found their perfect Anfield replacement.
Whilst not quite having yet set the world alight in West London with his performances, Pulisic is certainly capable of the spectacular – just like Salah.
Should Liverpool sell Salah?
Yes, his time is up!
No, he’s here to stay!
Since joining the Blues from Borussia Dortmund, ironically as a replacement for Real Madrid-bound Eden Hazard, he has made 59 appearances for the club, scoring 13 goals and providing 11 assists, respectable numbers for a wide player.
One would argue that Pulisic simply does not match Salah in terms of output and that is certainly true considering that the Egyptian has plundered an eye-watering 119 goals since his arrival at Anfield.
However, it could be argued that the former Dortmund man is nowhere near his peak considering that he is just 22 years of age.
In fact, in his first season at Stamford Bridge, Pulisic was even matching Salah on the pitch in terms of statistics.
According to WhoScored, he was racking up 2.5 shots, 1.2 key passes, 2.2 dribbles and was getting fouled on average 1.2 occasions per game in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Salah was averaging 3.9 shots, 1.8 key passes, 1.5 dribbles and getting fouled just 0.5 times per game throughout Liverpool’s glorious 2019/20 campaign.
Their numbers then, are extremely comparable.
Even Jurgen Klopp appears to be a fan of the former Borussia Dortmund winger, calling him “super exciting”. After all, he promoted him to the German outfit’s senior squad and he tried to sign him earlier in his Anfield tenure.
Any deal though is, of course, dependent on whether Chelsea are willing to sell to a close rival. However, if Liverpool do lose Salah for anywhere close to his £108m rating and manage to pick up £54m-rated Pulisic, they have arguably pulled off an exceptional deal.
The Reds really should follow up on their reported interest and grab Pulisic at the second time of asking, either as a replacement for Salah or as competition for their Egyptian King.
