PLAYER RATINGS | Galatasaray 4-2 Marseille, tired-looking OM torn apart in Istanbul and drop out of Europa League

« Back

25/11/21: Europa League, Group E – Galatasaray 4-2 Marseille

OM:

Pau López, 3 – He has improved since his opening French salvo but the idea he’s an upgrade on Mandanda remains laughable. He somehow let the first skip through his body and was lucky not to concede a fifth having raced off his line.

Duje Ćaleta-Car, 4 – Not exactly solid by any means but was unfortunate with his own goal, a cross deflecting in off his shin, and made a goal saving block with Lopez stranded.

William Saliba, 2 – Sometimes his calm, serene on-field persona can descend into passivity and an absence of gumption and, much like the rest of this OM side, this was one such occasion. He lazily conceded possession for Feghouli’s third and completely lost Babel after a simple long ball for 4-1.

Luan Peres, 2 – Back to the Peres of the start of the season. Out of his depth and erratic while being positionally weak throughout.

Pol Lirola, 3

Boubacar Kamara, 2 – Outplayed completely in midfield and his ill-advised blind pass round a corner led to Cicâldău’s opening goal.

Gerson, 3

Mattéo Guendouzi, 4 – One of few players to offer some bite and passion and led OM’s fleeting second half revivals but was swamped in midfield.

Pape Gueye, 3

Bamba Dieng, 6 – By far OM’s best player. His endeavour created openings throughout and he was unlucky not to score, hitting the bar in the first half while producing two well directed headers. However, he did somehow scuffed a shot wide with the goal open after he rounded Muslera just after half time.

Arkadiusz Milik, 4 – Zero impact or threat for long periods and even missed the penalty before slotting home a fortunate rebound. His late consolation header for 4-2 barely rescued a poor display.
