CHESTER, Pa. – The Philadelphia Union are preparing for the first leg of the 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League semifinal. In what is the biggest game in club history, the Union will face Mexican giants, Club America, in Mexico City on Thursday, August 12 at 10:00 p.m. ET (FS1, TUDN).
Forward Kacper Przybylko has scored five goals thus far in the tournament, the most of any player in the tournament, that has him at the top of the Golden Boot race with three matches remaining. Przybylko scored in each of the Union’s matches in CCL play and added an assist in the road leg at Atlanta United FC. Goalkeeper Andre Blake has kept three clean sheets, allowing only one goal in four matches.
In the round of 16 of the 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League, the Union beat Costa Rican side, Saprissa, 5-0 on aggregate to move on to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, the club faced fellow MLS team, Atlanta United, whom they beat 4-1 on aggregate to earn their spot in the semifinals. The Union will now face the top tier Liga MX club, Club America, in their first leg on the road in Mexico City at the historic Estadio Azteca this Thursday, before they return home to Subaru Park for the second leg on September 15.
