Owen Brown – the agent of Manchester City’s Phil Foden – is expected to hold something of an advisory role at Newcastle United.
That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Brown has been working as a football consultant to PCP Capital Partners during their Newcastle takeover bid.
Now the takeover is done, Brown is expected to stick around and will look into events at St James’ Park whilst advising the new owners.
Brown worked with Rafael Benitez at Liverpool. During his time at Anfield, he held roles such as scout, player liaison officer and advisor to the manager.
Brown, 61, has even been a manger in the past. He managed Barrow, Droylsden and Vauxhall Motors but hasn’t managed since 2005.
This may be seen as something of a disappointment for Brown though.
Last summer, The Independent reported that he was confident of becoming director of football at Newcastle.
Instead, he will be an advisor at Newcastle, working closely with the new owners.
Don’t get excited – Foden surely won’t join Newcastle
The most intriguing note on Brown is that he currently represents Phil Foden as an agent.
That will ultimately lead to excitement from Newcastle fans hoping that the Manchester City star will join the Magpies in the future.
Newcastle may well have the money for such a move, but it’s hard to imagine Foden trading City for Newcastle.
Foden is the hometown hero at City and looks set to be their star man for 10 years or more.
Brown’s influence surely won’t change all that much when it comes to Foden, with Newcastle maybe not quite able to make such huge additions just yet.
