In an interview with France Football, Barcelona midfielder Pedri spoke about having a trial with Real Madrid.
“Without Las Palmas, I would never be here talking to you. I had spent a week on trial at Real Madrid, training in the cold (laughs) but, according to them, I wasn’t at their level. So it was Las Palmas (aged 15), a natural choice anyway because any kid from the Canaries dreams of playing there. It’s the most important club, along with Tenerife. Both are also going very well this season in the second division, and it would be nice if one of them went up so I could play at home.
“I learned a lot there [Las Palmas]. Pepe Mel was fundamental. The second division in Spain is very tough. It’s a different kind of football; tougher, more physical, you don’t have the ball like in La Liga with Barça. I gained experience there,” he said.
