While four games were scheduled this past weekend, the matches between Curtin University- Murdoch University Melville and Hyundai NTC-Balcatta Etna were postponed due to COVID-19. The two other scheduled matches did go ahead as planned.
At least we know which team the Goal of the Week winner is coming from …

Fremantle City 0-0 Perth SC
Fremantle City suffered an injury to key player Tash Rigby in the early stages of their game with Perth SC. The Perth Glory’s A-League Women captain has been an outstanding presence in defence, while also creating countless opportunities offensively along the right all season.
Rigby, joining up with Jamie-Lee Gayle on that flank, was creating headaches for the visitors until she went down with what initially looked to be a knee injury around the half hour mark.
Up until this point, Freo were dominant. They played a high press which forced the Azzurri into errors and when the visitors did have possession, the home side were able to force them into passing backwards.
Both flanks were key to Fremantle’s offensive tactics and after Perth SC settled they were able to minimise any danger from the central area of the pitch by getting out quickly.
With the threat on the right now nullified in Rigby’s absence, Perth SC began to take the threat to the hosts. Taneeshaa Baker’s drive from the edge of the box needed to be held by Fremantle goalkeeper Dayle Schroeder.
Ella Lincoln was also getting joy further forward and forced Schoeder to palm a shot over the bar.
The Azzurri continued on the front foot after the break with Lincoln advancing before hitting an effort into the side netting.
Abbey Meakins was next to go close for the visitors when a superb sweeping move that started inside their own half by Cameron Barreiro led to Liana Cook finding Meakins on the edge of the box to fire an effort that Schroeder got down well to.
Meakins had the final chance in the closing stages when she tried to get the ball over the line against Schroeder, but a mixture of the Freo keeper and massed defenders ensured that the scores remained 0-0 at the end.

Perth RedStar 9-0 Subiaco
Perth RedStar took advantage of that result to extend their lead at the top of the table to five points after dismissing Subiaco 9-0.
It took just three minutes for the Reds to get off the mark as with a superb long range finish from Grace Monteiro.
Subiaco were under the pump with the home side looking to close them down rapidly any time they got possession. This pressure resulted in a number of RedStar’s goals. Larissa Walsh doubled the home side’s lead after a comfortable exchange of passes ended with her side footing home.
Perth RedStar’s third goal with 14 minutes gone was an absolute beauty. Subiaco lost possession in the centre of the pitch which allowed Andreia Teixeira to get a touch and then lifted a sensational finish into the net from over 40 yards.
We’ve seen some special goals of late and here’s another, an absolute screamer from Perth RedStar’s Andreia Teixeira as the #NPLWA – Women’s leaders smashed @SubiacoAFC 9-0 to extend their 100% start.

Just five minutes later it was 4-0. A loose pass from Subi allowed Walsh to advance to a one-on-one with Zoe Board in the visitors’ goal. Board grabbed the ball but couldn’t hang on to it which allowed Walsh to regain possession and square for Sarah Carroll to roll the ball in.
RedStars went in at the break 5-0 up when the visitors coughed up possession which allowed the ball to be threaded through for Carroll to grab her second.
Seconds into the re-start and it was another reward for the home side’s persistent pressing of Subiaco in possession. Ruby Cohen forced the error and played in Walsh who comfortably finished.
With 35 minutes to play, Zoe Board produced a superb save in the Subi goal from Jacinta Coleman, but the ball ran out to the left and came in low for Olivia Wood to slot home.
Sarah Carroll completed her hat-trick with a penalty just before the hour mark. Former Football Fern Renee Leota completed the scoring with five minutes remaining. She turned her defender beautifully and comfortably side footed home.
