Northern Ireland to face Lionesses at Windsor Park

The two nations will contest a FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 qualifier at the home of Northern Irish football on Tuesday 12 April.

Northern Ireland have regularly used Seaview in Belfast for their competitive international fixtures, however, they will now face England on the biggest stage in-front of what could turn out to be a record crowd for a women’s international match at Windsor Park. The Green and White Army are very much boasting a ‘golden generation’ of talent and the fans have responded by giving the team their backing with previous home FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 qualifiers selling out.

Northern Ireland are currently third in their FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 qualifying group with 13 points collected from their six games played so far. Kenny Shiels’ side may need to pick up points against qualification rivals England and Austria to reach the tournament finals.

April opponents England are boasting maximum points while they are yet to concede a goal under the guidance of new head coach Sarina Wiegman.

Ticket sales for the match are set to commence next month.
