Newcastle begin squad overhaul
Newcastle United have begun the unenviable task of creating a squad capable of avoiding the drop this season, midway through the campaign.
After being taken over in October, the new owners will be desperate not to begin their reign in the Championship, and as such have begun this transfer window in style.
Former Tottenham man Kieran Trippier has arrived in Newcastle ahead of his move from Atletico Madrid to Tyneside, for a fee of around 12 million pounds. The 31-year-old will provide invaluable experience to the side, and is set to sign a 2.5-year deal in the northeast.

However, not all are as keen on the move as the England international.
“Not even an option”
One man who will not be joining Trippier on Tyneside is Everton defender Lucas Digne.
The left-back is almost certain to depart his current club this January, as a consequence of a fallout with current boss Rafa Benitez, and Newcastle was touted as a potential destination for the Frenchman.
However, these rumours have been shut down since.
As per the reliable Fabrizio Romano, a move to join Eddie Howe’s side is “Not even an option. No way”.
