Newcastle are ‘ready to make a super offer’ for River Plate and Argentina striker Alvarez

Newcastle are ‘ready to make a super offer’ to sign River Plate striker Julian Alvarez, according to reports.

The 21-year-old has scored 18 goals in 21 games this season and has earned five caps for the Argentina national team.

A report earlier this month claimed Manchester United have ‘put in a call’ about Alvarez, who can leave for just £17million.

A reason for cheer and fear for each relegation candidate…

He is available on a free transfer in 12 months’ time with his contract at the Argentinian outfit coming to an end.

Last month, Sport reported that Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter Milan are all interested in Alvarez, as well as Man Utd.

However, Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness) claim Newcastle have joined the race to sign the young striker.

The report says Inter are currently leading the pack, but will face stiff competition from their arch-rivals AC Milan.

And unsurprisingly, the Magpies will also try to sign Alvarez this month as they bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

The Italian outlet claim Newcastle are ‘ready to make a super offer’ for the attacker. This will relate to personal terms due to his £17m buyout clause.

Unfortunately for the Geordies, Alvarez is keen to develop at a ‘top club’. Their struggles suggest they are not in that bracket currently, but certainly have the potential to get there given their unlimited financial power.

Newcastle have also been linked with Arsenal outcast Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was recently stripped of the captaincy at the north London club.

And Jermaine Pennant believes “there is every chance” Newcastle can sign Aubameyang this month.

“As a professional footballer, it doesn’t matter, you want to play football,” he said on Stadium Astro (via The Boot Room).

“And, if it is not happening at Arsenal, he won’t want to sit there on the weekend watching his teammates play while he is sat at home, he will want to play football.

“He’s a great player and he will want to showcase that. It could be a chance to get another big move off the back of that. Getting stripped of a captaincy, there is not really much coming back from that.

“We know he is not going to be a starter, we know he’s not going to get much game time. There is every chance this Newcastle deal could come off, for sure.”
