Michigan football is now back on commitment watch with a pair of top targets in the 2022 recruiting class.
It’s going to be a good weekend for Michigan football fans and not just because of the Fourth of July holiday.
That’s because one of Michigan’s top targets in the 2022 recruiting class, Colston Loveland, a three-star tight end according to the 247 sports composite rankings, is going to announce his decision on Sunday.
This is great news for the Wolverines because following his recent visit to Ann Arbor, Loveland has been trending with expert picks to the Wolverines, despite a number of big-name programs offering recently such as Alabama, LSU, and Auburn.
Loveland picked up even more crystal ball projections this weekend, including one from Steve Lorenz of The Michigan Insider, which puts the total of U-M predictions between 247 and Rivals into double digits. Here’s what Loveland told 247 sports about his visit to Ann Arbor:
“It was awesome. The culture and the people really stood out to me. I met with all of the coaches and the conversations were good. We talked ball and how coach (Jim) Harbaugh sees me in the offense.”
Loveland is a three-star in the composite rankings but is ranked as a four-star recruit by 247 sports own rankings for 2022 and No. 13 among tight ends. He’s ranked 588 overall right now but with his offer list growing that number should jump.
The 6-foot-5, 230-pound tight end is projected by 247 sports as a future NFL draft pick in rounds 4-7 and this is will be a really good get, as well as the first commitment from Idaho since 1943 according to Lorenz.
4-star DE expected to commit too
On the heels of Loveland’s expected commitment on Sunday, the Wolverines are the favorite when it comes to four-star defensive end Mario Eugenio.
Eugenio is one of the best edge rushers in the 2022 class and he is going to make his decision known on July 5th. Like Loveland, all of the recent picks have been in favor of the Wolverines and it would be an upset if he committed anywhere but Michigan.
We’ll see what happens in the coming days with others possibly making decisions too, but the Wolverines are poised to land two quality prospects in the next two days, which will carry over the momentum from June.
